Paper, Pen & Phone
Seamless, secure integration of handwritten documents into your electronic processes.

Even in the age of notebooks and smartphones, people still use pens to sign contracts, make notes, or fill out forms. This is because using new, often unfamiliar technology would simply take too long. Writing down information in the time honored fashion may be quick, but it takes considerable time and effort to manually key this data into IT systems further down the line. And that not only pushes up companies’ costs; it also leads to information loss through typing errors.
Paper, Pen & Phone (or P3 for short) enables you to seamlessly integrate handwritten documents into electronic processes. What at first sight appear to be a conventional pen and stationery are actually components of a state-of-the-art solution, comprising paper-based documents, a cell phone, a server, and a pen that packs a host of advanced features – including built-in security.
Printed forms for use with P3 feature a virtually invisible grid. The solution’s special pen incorporates a camera, which uses this grid to precisely determine the position of handwritten text on the page. The data captured in this way is transmitted via cell phone to the P3 server, where it is entered into the corresponding digital document – with 0.333-mm accuracy. Text-recognition software then transforms the handwriting into typed characters, and forwards this information to the relevant back-end systems. In addition, the solution captures the speed and pressure with which people write their signatures – for example, on contracts – and encrypts this data.
Technology that delivers tangible business benefits
With P3, handwritten information is available in central IT systems within seconds – eliminating transport and data-entry costs. What’s more, end users no longer need to get to grips with unfamiliar technology.
Additional services enable you to quickly and easily enhance the functionality and benefits of P³. For example, smartphones managed by T-Systems provide secure mobile connectivity, and managed laser printers deliver high-quality hardcopies at low prices.
