Every second SAP system is cloud-based

December 16, 2009

With 5 million SAPS, T-Systems provides half of all SAP systems to its customers based on cloud computing.
SAPS stands for SAP Application Performance Standard and describes the capacity of SAP systems. One SAPS corresponds to about 60 dialog steps per hour.
“With Dynamic Services by T-Systems, ICT is made available like power out of the wall outlet,” says Olaf Heyden, Director ICT Operations (Information and Communications Technology) at T-Systems. “Customers only pay for what they actually use, thus reducing their costs by up to 30% – an argument that is convincing more and more businesses."
Better capacity utilization, less energy consumption
The special feature? By combining the servers into a large pool, T-Systems was able to increase their capacity utilization to 80 percent. “With our Dynamic Services we need significantly less hardware for the same performance and thus also require less energy than with a dedicated hosting model, where each customer has its own computer and storage capacities,” explains Heyden. Customers and the environment alike benefit from this.
Although in the past it was primarily smaller businesses that employed this model, lately more and more major customers, such as Philips, Shell and Linde, have been switching to this service. These companies are no longer operating their SAP systems themselves but are obtaining storage capacity, bandwidth and computing and application capacities based on demand via secure networks from T-Systems data centers.
